Fuel pump for TBI injection

Postby TZFBird on Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:39 am

Since I've got the engine done and a good basic tune done on it I'm going to guess that I'll at least need to upgrade the stock pump a bit. Anyone think the Aeromotive SS red pump would be a decent choice?

On a mustang forum they were saying that it is only good to about 14psi. 140gph, but I have to get my requirement calculation done. Then I wonder if the throttle body itself will flow enough. I know the ports in it arn't the biggest, so that makes me wonder if I should attempt to port that out a bit to try and bring it's capabilities up. I have a few throttle bodys laying around, but is it worth my troubles? I have a set of 85lb 454 injectors just in case they may be needed.

I know I don't know my exact limiting factors until I make a dyno run, but I just don't want to get there and hear that I am running out of fuel at 4k or something stupid like that. Optimally I would ditch the whole TBI setup and go with something better, but I suppose that takes half the fun out of it. I do think I'll upgrade the ECM to one of the later truck ECMs so I get a lot faster baud out of the ECM for better fuel/spark management.
